The 148th session of the Executive Board (EB), held virtually from 18-26 January, concludes Tuesday. WHO’s SAGE on Moderna The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization will make public its interim recommendations to WHO on the use of Moderna COVID-19 (mRNA-1273) vaccine. The recommendations have been agreed at the SAGE extraordinary meeting held on 21 January. SAGE is charged with advising WHO on overall global policies and strategies, ranging from vaccines and technology, research and development, to delivery of immunization and its linkages with other health interventions. Thursday, 28 January Launch of the new roadmap for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030 Register here for the launch of “Ending the neglect to attain the Sustainable Development Goals: a roadmap for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) 2021–2030”. The new roadmap is a strategic document that aims to strengthen the global response to NTDs by setting targets for control, elimination and eradication of 20 diseases associated with poverty. Saturday, 30 January PHEIC: one year on Saturday, 30 January will mark one year since WHO declared that the outbreak of COVID-19 constituted a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This is the highest alarm under international health law. At that time, though the outbreak had taken a heavy toll in China, there were 98 cases and no deaths yet reported outside the country.
