Ask Sarah
Q:
How Do I Melt Chocolate in the Microwave?
Ahh, chocolate, one of the five basic food groups. At least that's what it seems like! Chocolate pops up in thousands of Taste of Home recipes, which means our talented Test Kitchen team has mastered melting the favorite ingredient for dunking, drizzling and decorating. We use a
number of methods
, but here's the easiest.
Melting chocolate in the microwave takes just a few minutes and no special tools. Simply chop chocolate into small pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook at 70% power for 1 minute, then stir. Continue to cook in 30-second increments, stirring frequently, until chocolate is fully melted.
Because each microwave behaves differently, keep a careful eye on your chocolate. It's possible to overcook chocolate, especially white chocolate, in a microwave.
