UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable The UN High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is the annual high-level forum to review progress against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting of the HLPF in 2022 continues from 11-15 July, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and will include a three-day ministerial segment from 13 – 15 July 2022. The WHO Director-General and other WHO officials will participate virtually and in person, in several of the HLPF official and side events to highlight the centrality of health across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and what WHO is doing to support countries to achieve an equitable and resilient recovery from COVID-19 as well as to better prepare for future pandemics. Two key WHO events at the HLPF are listed farther below. A fuller listing is available here: WHO at the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development  Monday, 11 July Next Monday at 14:00 CEST, WHO will hold an embargoed virtual press conference to launch WHO's first report on “2021 Bacterial vaccines in clinical and preclinical development: an overview and analysis.” The report provides an analysis of vaccines in development that have the potential to address drug resistance from priority antimicrobial resistance (AMR) pathogens. The analysis provides data for the global R&D community to guide investments and research into feasible vaccines. The analysis also provides actionable information for decision-makers and could be used to inform policies including expansion of equitable access to vaccines, and other preventive and control measures where appropriate. The report and press materials are available to media under an embargo which will lift Tuesday, 12 July, at 17:00 CEST.  Wednesday, 13 July High-level report launch: The gender pay gap The International Labour Organization and WHO joined forces to produce the most comprehensive global evidence on gender pay inequalities in the health and care sector. The report, The gender pay gap in the health and care sector: a global analysis in the time of COVID-19, will be launched at a dedicated in-person side event at the UN HLPF to drive worldwide commitment to integrated policy action for gender equality, decent work and economic growth and good health and wellbeing. The launch event will take place at UN Headquarters in New York next Wednesday, 18:00-19:15 EDT. In-person attendance is limited. Access to vaccination is an absolute requirement to achieve universal health coverage, and one of the world’s most cost-effective public health interventions. Yet, under immunization is still a concern, especially among refugees and migrants, often leading to higher burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in these population groups compared with the host population and with refugees and migrants facing barriers in accessing access to health and health services, including vaccinations. Next Wednesday, WHO will release the third report of the Global Evidence Review on Health and Migration (GEHM) series. The report, Ensuring the integration of refugees and migrants in immunization policies, planning, and service delivery globally, provides a global snapshot of immunization policies and practices for refugees and migrants. It highlights facilitators for refugees and migrants to immunization services and provides policy considerations based on good practices to guide Member States in strengthening the delivery of these services and meet the global commitment to the universal right to health.  Friday, 15 July WHO/UNICEF Estimates of National Immunization Coverage Based on country-reported data, the official WHO and UNICEF estimates of national immunization coverage (WUENIC) provide the world’s largest data-set on immunization trends annually. It covers vaccinations against 13 diseases given through regular health systems - normally at clinics or community centres or health worker visits. For 2021, data were provided from 170 countries. Available next Friday, the data set provides a critical assessment of how well we are doing in reaching every child with life-saving vaccines, helping to spotlight where progress is lacking, including where reversals in immunization coverage are happening, and where there are areas of success.
