What I do remember is the repeated heartbreak. Over those years, the news got worse and worse. I heard phrases like, "Your dad needs to go through chemo and radiation before he can have surgery." "Your dad's lung was punctured during surgery. We don't know if he will make it." "Your dad's cancer came back." And then, when he couldn't face the pain and sickness of chemo, "I can't go through treatment again." My dad passed away in the fall of 2019, two years after they gave him six months to live. He made it to my wedding, walked me down the aisle, and danced with me at the reception. He was that strong — he pushed through to see me get married. (Keep reading)
