|  For the Love of a Dog From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Lessons Learned from My Dog By Carol Gentry Allen My dear old dog, most constant of all friends. ~William Croswell Doane My husband and a neighbor were standing in the yard talking when a little dog walked up to them. He was a ragged-looking little fellow who looked like he had been neglected for some time. He wore a rabies tag from a veterinarian some thirty miles from where we lived. My neighbor decided to take him home and drive to the vet on Monday to see if the owner could be found. When my husband told me about the dog, I went to my neighbor's house to see him. When I entered, the little dog ran to me, jumping up and down, and wagging his tail in excitement. I clapped my hands and said, "Okay, Scooter," and sat down on the sofa. I don't know where the name Scooter came from. It just popped out of my mouth. The little dog immediately jumped in my lap and made himself comfortable.
