Our annual 15-Second Vocabulary Video Contest
"Of all the factors that transform how we communicate, none are so powerful as young people, who have always steered language," writes the book critic Parul Sehgal. |
Last year, we invited students in middle and high school to create new words for the English language in our "Invent a Word Challenge." More than 500 students responded with words like "oblivionaire" (a billionaire who chooses to be blind to the disparity and inequality that his or her wealth is creating) and "heartdown" (a period when, after being hurt or betrayed, your heart is recovering and you are reluctant to let others get close to you). |
The results were so creative and inspiring that we've decided to run this challenge again for the month of February. |
We're also bringing back, for its 10th year, our annual 15-Second Vocabulary Video Contest. Students can select any word from our list of 2,500-plus Words of the Day and define it. We're confident students will submit another set of brilliant and hilarious videos. The contest runs from Feb. 15 to March 15. |
We can't wait to see what students come up with for both of these challenges! |
Sincerely, The Learning Network |
