It was 5:00 A.M. — the first morning of my dad's new routine for his heart exercises. He hated every minute of it. The doctor had ordered an hour's walk every day. But what my dad longed for was a hot cup of coffee and the morning news. As he approached the woods at the end of the street, three large dogs came running toward him from the last house. One was a German Shepherd, one was a Pit Bull, and the third was an indefinable mix. Dad stopped dead in his tracks, wondering if he was in danger. But the dogs just seemed to want to play.
