We have five acres, and he was getting tired of setting traps. Every morning, I would see him check the ten traps around the upper acreage. "The gopher population is ridiculous!" he complained. "You mean we need to get a cat," I replied. "Probably more than one." He sighed loudly and looked up from setting the latest trap. He had a bucket full of traps and estimated that he had gotten about 100 gophers in the past year. At first, he was sort of like the angler who goes out fishing and has a really good day. As I drove into the garage coming home from work, he would hurry over to my car. "Today, I got three!" he'd brag. Not anymore. I could see the desperation in his eyes. (Keep reading)  |
