Learning Network: A Multimedia Challenge for Teachers and Teens

What is high school like in 2023?

Dear Reader,

What can you show or tell us that might help explain what it's like to be an educator or a student in high school right now?

That's the broad question we're asking anyone who is interested in contributing to our first challenge of the 2023-24 school year. For the first time ever, we're inviting educators as well as teenagers to participate in a call-out, and we're hoping that you can help us create a vivid portrait of secondary school today, told by those living through it.

We hope you'll reflect on and document an aspect of your high school experience, big or small, that is especially meaningful to you. You can do so in almost any format you can upload digitally, whether an essay, poem, art piece, photograph, song, podcast, video or graphic, as long as you can explain in an artist's statement how the work relates to our theme.

To help you think about a story you want to tell in a way you'd like to tell it, we've put together several resources: a forum for both students and educators with 15 questions to help you think about your life in school; a collection of over 75 free links of recent Times education reporting to respond to; and a step-by-step guide for brainstorming and creating.

What do you have to say about high school in 2023? We're accepting submissions through Oct. 4.

Sincerely,
The Learning Network
