Long before I knew him, he had amassed a vast library of books — sales, marketing, consulting, leadership, biography, sports, religion, spirituality. And after we were married, he continued to buy them. Following seminars or outings at the mall, he'd come home with another shopping bag full of books. He'd cram the new books into the already packed ceiling-high shelves in his office, often wedging the books sideways above the upright ones. "Even if you get just one idea from a whole book," he said, "it's worth it." In one of those famous compromises of marriage, I learned to live with the growing collection of books, keeping my sniping comments down ("When will you ever read them all?") and occasionally dusting or straightening them.
