Heart of Harlem From Chicken Soup for the Soul: I'm Speaking Now By Lavinia Nanetta Holmes My mother would look at me and she'd say, "Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last." ~Kamala Harris My husband Reggie and I decided to go to New York City, to use up airline tickets previously booked for an event that had been rescheduled. It would be my first time visiting the city, and we both wanted to check some things off our bucket lists since there's so much to do and see there. Plus, we wanted to visit a good friend in Harlem, Eric B. Turner, a Black Broadway actor, who wears many hats in New York and in other cities around the world. We arrived at Eric's apartment after spending the morning driving around Manhattan and taking in some of the sights. We were tired and hungry from the long red-eye flight, so the three of us decided to head out on foot to fill our bellies with soul food! We were going to one of the popular Black-owned restaurants Eric recommended in the historical neighborhood. (Keep reading) |
