Learning Network: New lesson plans on astronomy and race

Dear Reader,

As part of our daily work, the Learning Network team searches The New York Times for interesting, informative and relevant articles to use as the basis for new curriculum resources. This week, we created two new lesson plans based on two outstanding Times pieces.

The first lesson uses a recent Times interactive that looks at how census categories for race and ethnicity have changed over the last 230 years in the United States. We invite students to consider what that might suggest about our country's past and future.

The second lesson, based on The Times Magazine's "A Beginner's Guide to Looking at the Universe," encourages students to explore how the James Webb Space Telescope is changing what we see in the cosmos.

Teachers can find these resources, and many more, by searching for lessons and teaching ideas.

Sincerely,
The Learning Network
