They always seem to come out on top, no matter what they are doing, or pretend they do. ~Barbara Webster I was a Chief Petty Officer stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in San Pedro, California. On duty one evening, I drove a golf cart-like vehicle to check the base perimeter. Along the way, I stopped at a beautiful vista overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Fascinated, I watched as a flock of seagulls fought over a fish that one of them had caught. During the brouhaha, the fish was snatched several times by various birds and kept bouncing about in the air between them. This battle slowly moved inland toward my position until it was only a few feet above the sand and no longer over water. As the fish finally dropped onto the sandy beach, the birds also landed, commencing a ground assault. (Keep reading) |
