Click here Tuesday, 5 August 2025 MEDIA ADVISORY COVID-19 - Global Situation Updated living guideline on the clinical management of COVID-19 WHO regularly updates its COVID-19 clinical care guidelines to reflect new evidence as well as the changes in the disease spread and severity. In the latest update, existing recommendations were reviewed, and new ones were added about the use of antibiotics in COVID-19 patients, based on a recent systematic review and meta-analysis, and the pressing need to address antimicrobial resistance. WHO advises against antibiotics when a bacterial coinfection isn’t suspected. This is a strong recommendation for patients with mild COVID-19, and a weaker or conditional one for patients with severe COVID-19.
