The data will be compiled in two reports: World mental health today and Mental health atlas 2024. These reports are critical tools for policymakers, implementers and advocates in informing national strategies and global dialogue, particularly in the lead-up to the Fourth UN High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing in New York in September 2025. Further information and registration: here. ********** Launch of the French translation of WHO’s Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials 14.00 CEST, webinar The webinar will highlight the importance of the WHO Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials in strengthening clinical trial ecosystems, share country and regional experiences, and explore strategies for ethical and inclusive trial conduct, community engagement, and regional collaboration. The Guidance aims to improve the quality, coordination, and inclusiveness of clinical trials globally, with a focus on ensuring that research generates timely and reliable evidence for public health. The availability of the French version broadens access to this critical resource, supporting its implementation across Francophone countries and regions. ![]() Thursday, 04 September Fifth meeting of the International Health Regulations (IHR) Emergency Committee on the mpox upsurge The fifth meeting of the Emergency Committee for the mpox upsurge, convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005), will be held on Thursday, 04 September 2025. Following their meeting, the Emergency Committee will advise the Director-General as to whether the mpox upsurge still constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). The decision of the Director-General following the advice of the Emergency Committee will be shared after the meeting. The Committee’s statement, once issued, will be shared with the media. ********** Release of the WHO updated Model Lists of Essential Medicines On Thursday, 04 September, WHO will release the updated editions of its Model Lists of Essential Medicines (EML) and Essential Medicines for Children (EMLc), marking the 25th edition of the EML and the 10th edition of the EMLc. WHO Model Lists include medicines for the priority health needs of populations. First published in 1977 and updated every two years, they are adopted in over 150 countries, serving as a basis for public sector procurement, supply of medicines and health insurance, reimbursement schemes. Its goal is to ensure early identification and timely intervention for children with sensory impairments, contributing to better health, learning, and life outcomes. Simultaneous interpretation in French, Spanish, and International Sign Language will be provided. The webinar offered in two slots to accommodate different time zones. Further information and registration: here. ********** Launch of Phase 2 of WHO’s Science and Policy Summaries on air pollution, energy access, climate change and health 14.00 CEST, webinar Air pollution continues to be one of the largest environmental risks to health, contributing to millions of deaths each year—especially among vulnerable groups such as children and those with noncommunicable diseases. Energy poverty and the worsening effects of climate change further compound these health threats. To support science-informed policy-making that protects health and promotes cleaner environments, the World Health Organization is launching Phase 2 of its Science and Policy Summaries (SPS) on Air Pollution, Energy Access, Climate Change, and Health. The SPS aims to equip decision-makers with robust, accessible evidence to support solutions for clean air, clean energy, and climate-resilient health systems.
