This will be achieved by implementing comprehensive integrated surveillance, alert management, testing, contact tracing, and safe clinical care while protecting healthcare workers and empowering communities to participate in outbreak prevention and control. Ebola situation report N°1 On 15 September, the WHO issued the first situation report on the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the DRC, which offers a situation update as of 14 September. It outlines public health response, including coordination, surveillance and laboratory, case management, vaccination and infection prevention and control, and offers a timeline of key events. Research priorities in response to the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and future filovirus epidemics On 5 September, the World Health Organization, in collaboration with France’s National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), convened a Filovirus Collaborative Open Consortium (CORC) Scientific Consultation to assess the evolving situation, share lessons learned, and define joint research priorities. Experts identified 10 key research actions, reflecting a dual imperative of supporting effective, real-time outbreak response, and strengthening long-term preparedness for future filovirus epidemics. Three expert groups on therapeutics, vaccines, and laboratory science were established, focusing both on immediate research needs and longer-term filovirus preparedness.
