Her feet stand on a kitchen mat, tired from wrangling children, cooking, sweeping the crumbs off the floor, pushing strollers, driving to the grocery store, and chopping onions on a cutting board. But she is strong and, for fifteen minutes more, she washes dishes while staring out the window at her frolicking kids and the dipping sun. A few years ago, I picked up a popular book called One Thousand Gifts, written by Ann Voskamp. She lives in Canada with her farmer husband and their brood of precious children. In the book, she told the story of soap bubbles dancing off her hands while she scrubbed pots and pans in the sink at the end of the day. In her book, the poetic words described the color of the thin bubble skin and the way the floating iridescence calls her to a place of gratitude. (Keep reading) |
