WHA Highlights for Media
Day 4 of the 79th World Health Assembly
The Seventy-ninth session of the World Health Assembly (WHA79) continues in Geneva, Switzerland and will meet today in Committee A at the WHO Headquarters (HQ), while Committee B will meet at the Palais des Nations.
The detailed programme of work can be found in Daily Journal N°4, available in six languages of the United Nations (UN).
Working hours are from 09.00 to 12.00 and 14.30 to 17.30 CEST. Committee A will hold an evening meeting, starting at 18.00 CEST.
The public meetings will be webcast live on the WHO website. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Highlights of the day:
Committee A:
- Public health implications of the unprovoked attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran on civilians and essential civilian infrastructure in Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, including draft resolution (afternoon meeting)
- Universal health coverage, including draft decisions on precision medicine, diagnostic imaging through teleradiology, reducing the burden of stroke, and smart and efficient pharmacovigilance
- Adoption of the Global strategy for integrated emergency, critical and operative care, 2026–2035, and an updated global action plan on antimicrobial resistance. Draft decision on transplantation of human cells, tissues and organs will also be considered
- Primary health care, including draft decision on the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel
The Committee is also scheduled to conclude its consideration of agenda items 11 and 12 today, including draft texts on developing a WHO post-2030 tuberculosis strategy, steatotic liver disease, and haemophilia and other bleeding disorders. If time permits, other agenda items will be taken up, details in Daily Journal N°4.
Committee B:
- Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem: the report on the public health implications of the humanitarian crisis and draft resolution
- Status of collection of assessed contributions, including Member States in arrears in the payment (A79/17 and A79/28)
- Audit and oversight matters; Prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (A79/5); governance reform
- Human resources: annual report (A79/21 and A79/30), draft resolution on amendments to the Staff Regulations and Staff Rules
